WHAT CONDITIONS BENEFIT FROM CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
Although chiropractic is used most frequently to relieve low back pain, studies have found it to be effective for a variety of conditions, such as migraine headaches, neck and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and even infantile colic. Studies also indicate patients see chiropractors for organic problems as well, such as sinus conditions, sore throats, heart arrhythmias, digestive problems (acid reflux, gallbladder dysfunction, diarrhea, constipation). Results are often rated very satisfactory.
DOES CHIROPRACTIC HURT?
Under normal circumstances, adjustments don’t hurt. The patient may experience a minor amount of discomfort during the adjustment, which lasts only seconds.
IS CHIROPRACTIC SAFE?
Chiropractic adjustments or manipulations are extremely safe. In fact, chiropractic malpractice insurance is less than any other physician type.
ARE THERE STUDIES THAT SUPPORT CHIROPRACTIC?
Several studies have documented the effectiveness of chiropractic in relieving back pain, neck pain, etc. More recent studies have shown chiropractic to be effective in treating infantile colic and migraine headaches.
HOW OFTEN WILL I HAVE TO COME?
Every patient is different and therefore every treatment plan is unique. Furthermore, no treatment plan is written in stone and as you get better the frequency of treatments decreases. So, if you get better in two visits, then fantastic!
ONCE I SEE A CHIROPRACTOR, DO I HAVE TO GO FOREVER?
Absolutely not! It is our goal to help you get better as fast as possible. Oftentimes, it may take several visits to make significant change, but if it takes only one that’s great. We recommend you look at objective measures of health, rather than just symptoms/pain in determining whether you are healthy or better. This makes it less likely that you will soon re-injure an area that felt better but wasn’t properly or entirely healed. You should always discuss your health goals and your spinal condition with your chiropractor.
Some patients prefer to make routine adjustments part of their life’s maintenance routine, just like brushing their teeth, routine dental exams, or exercising they choose to take better care of their spine than they used to. But that is your choice, not a life sentence.
WILL I HAVE TO HAVE X RAYS?
Not all of our patients need x-rays. Young children often do not. If you have films, then please bring them. After your initial exam, the doctor will make the determination as to whether or not X Rays are warranted. Many of our cases are complex enough to necessitate x-rays to improve clinical decision making and results.
DO YOU WORK WITH MEDICAL DOCTORS?
Yes. We receive referrals or recommendations from local medical doctors, but most clinics prefer to refer to physical therapists due to their lack of chiropractic training/understanding (it’s not the same thing, but some MD’s think it is). Don’t hesitate to ask for a referral if your insurance requires it.
We, however, do refer to local medical doctors when there is a need for further testing, opinions, or medical treatment. Often patients have already exhausted medical treatment efforts but find relief with chiropractic care.
DOES MY INSURANCE COVER CHIROPRACTIC?
Many plans have chiropractic coverage. There is usually an 800 number on the back of the card to call for benefits information.
HOW ARE ORGANS AFFECTED BY CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic affects your organ systems by affecting the body’s communication network, the nervous system. The nerves can be affected by adjustments turning off extra noise or interference or by opening the physical nerve channels.
