The shoulder is made up of several joints. Each relies upon the others for operating smoothly. Therefore whenever even one joint is impaired the rest are affected as well. Shoulder pain can be caused by a variety of factors including a localized injury, a misalignment of one or several vertebrae, poor posture, day to day stress, spinal curvature, or spinal injury. Most sports, even generally ‘stress-less’ activities such as golf and swimming can result in shoulder injury when repeated overhead arm motion puts the arm’s rotator cuff in peril. It’s important to remember that severe shoulder pain can be indicative of a minor dysfunction, while a minor ache may reflect a major problem. In either case chiropractic can help determine the basis and extent of the injury as well as provide therapy to restore function to the shoulder joint complex.
Because the shoulder is a ball and socket joint, and most of the socket is highly supported by muscles, the rotator cuff muscles get a lot of publicity with this joint. The rotator cuff muscles need soft tissue therapy to support their healing process and return function to the joint. Addressing only the misalignment of the joint is likely to lead to a quick return of the joint problem if the short, tight or painful muscle is not also corrected. We use several soft tissue therapy methods as well as laser to rehabilitate shoulder injuries. A torn rotator cuff that is only partially torn may be able to heal without surgery if it can be properly rested & rehabilitated
